OUR PROJECTS

RARE BURGERS PROJECT

There has been a lot of popularity for burgers to be served rare throughout restaurants in the UK but how can businesses meet this consumer demand while ensuring public health remains protected.

“The Food standards agency long-standing advice has been that burgers should be cooked thoroughly until they are steaming hot throughout, the juices run clear and there is no pink meat left inside. This is because bugs can be present in the burger and can only be killed by cooking all the way through.” (FSA, 2015)

However, the FSA has spotted the steadily increasing trend of burgers being cooked/prepared rare.

As a result we seen an opportunity that we thought could possibly make a difference. We decided to create leaflets that summarise  guidance from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on how to cook meat products such as raw mince beef burgers. We consulted the FSA about using their information to make these leaflets, and they were more than happy to let us do so.

We felt that leaflets would be a good way to present our findings and FSA information in a simple and easy to understand matter. We knew that if it was easy to understand and short but informative that food businesses would be more likely to read the information and it could make a difference.

We then reached out to the Ards and North Down Borough Council and told them about our leaflets as we wanted an effective way for them to be distributed round food businesses. The Ards and North Down Borough Council liked our idea and placed an order for 200 leaflets which was a great achievement for us just starting our business.

This is just the first project that we have carried out but we hope and plan to take on many more in the future. This is just the beginning of IEH Consultants.
